Blackhearts & Sparrows

Yes, they have an online store. Treat yo self.

The client

Blackhearts & Sparrows solve a difficult problem for people seeking tasty beverages – how do you discover new wines, beers and spirits you’re going to enjoy? The solution, it turns out, is to have staff who are as well informed as they are lovely. I once walked into a store and said I tried a pinot that had “really swampy notes, a real barnyard stank to it”. They squinted, smiled and gave me four different options across a range of price points – “these should do it,” he said, and he was right.

The scope

Blackhearts needed some copy support while they scaled their marketing team. The primary focus was writing product descriptions for new wines and beers arriving in stores and writing a regular newsletter.

The work

The greatest challenge and pleasure of working with Blackhearts & Sparrows was reading through their wine buyers’ tasting notes. I then had to translate these disparate notes and descriptors into a cohesive and accessible product description that would offer insight into what to expect from the wine, as well as compel people to add to cart!
